All Natural Hand Crafted Soaps
Our natural hand crafted soaps are made with 100% extra virgin olive oil. They are cold process soaps, hand made one small batch at a time, using only extra virgin olive oil, essential oils and herbs. They contain no artificial aromas or coloring and no chemical additives.
Each batch of soap is hand made (by me!) and produces 12 bath soaps and 18 hand soaps. Each batch is dated and each soap is numbered on the label.
Made with a variety of fragrances (as well as fragrance free) including Rosemary, Sage, Lavender, Thyme and Mint and available in the following sizes:
Bath soap - approximately 150g
Hand soap - approximately 30g
What is all natural soap?
Unlike commercial detergents with the long list of unpronounceable chemical ingredients, natural soap has only 2 main ingredients: Fat & Lye. These 2 things when mixed together cause a chemical reaction called saponification. You will also need water or a water based product to dissolve the lye and optional scents and colorants can be added (there are many all natural additives available such as essential oils and many aromatic herbs that grow in your garden at home).
Ingredients in natural (home-made) soap:
1) Fat. You can use any kind of animal or vegetable fat to make soap, but high quality vegetable oils are the best. Extra virgin olive oil contains a high percentage of components that will not saponify, leaving you with more of the original essence of the olive oil and a thick, creamy foam that leaves your skin soft and hydrated.
2) Lye (this is sodium hydroxide, also known as 'caustic soda'). Previously, lye was among the many different alkalis leached from hardwood ashes. Today lye is commercially manufactured using a membrane cell method.
3) Distilled water (or spring or rain water)
4) A little time, passion and creativity. Perhaps the addition of an essential oil for fragrance or a natural coloring such as ground rosemary powder.
And that's all....
